Place Of Worship
Project Summary
The Jain Society of Calgary (JSOC) is moving forward with a medium-term solution to finally secure an independent Jain Place of Worship.
-
Goal: Purchase and establish our own property where the community can gather for prayers, pujas, and religious celebrations.
-
Location: Within Calgary city limits for easy accessibility to all families.
-
Size: Approximately 2,000–3,000 sq. ft. suitable for daily darshan, weekend events, and Pathshala classes.
-
Ownership: 100% owned and operated by JSOC, ensuring full independence and decision-making authority.
-
Timeline: Immediate purchase and minor renovations for occupancy within 6–12 months.
Vision
Our vision is to create a dedicated spiritual home for the Jain community where:
-
We have daily darshan of Tirthankaras in a proper Derasar setting.
-
Community members can celebrate Paryushan, Snatra Puja, Weekend Puja, and other events without relying on temporary rented spaces.
-
Children and youth can learn Jain principles and participate in Pathshala and cultural programs.
-
The space serves as a hub for unity, culture, and spiritual growth.
Why Medium-Term?
-
✅ Immediate Access: After decades without a temple, this step brings our community together now, not 5–10 years later.
-
✅ Affordable & Within Reach: Smaller scale, lower cost compared to large joint ventures or new builds.
-
✅ Independent Decision-Making: 100% JSOC-owned, no shared control or governance with other organizations.
-
✅ Stepping Stone: Builds equity and momentum toward a future permanent Derasar.
Our Commitment
-
Secure a suitable, pre-approved religious/commercial property that aligns with Jain values.
-
Maintain financial transparency with regular updates to members.
-
Plan for phased improvements while keeping the property fully functional for worship.
